Adding Control

Primary Control Marks are placed in the initial traverse.

Secondary Control Marks is additional control installed from the Primary Control Marks after the traverse adjustment has taken place.

Field Process

• Install secondary control marks such as retros, monitor prisms or mini 360s in suitable locations.

• Complete a Resection using Primary Control Marks and suitable secondary control marks. Ensure that there is good geomtery and the residuals are as small as possible. New secondary control marks should be within the control marks used for the resection.

• Use Measure Rounds in Trimble Access and take observations to newly installed secondary control marks. Complete a minimum of 2 rounds for each newly observed points. The instrument should be on Standard mode not tracking.

• Once the rounds are complete, move the total station to a different location and repeat the process above. New resection followed by measure rounds. When measuring rounds the second time, name the points with a seperate suffix so that within Trimble Access a second coordinate is stored.

• Finally repeat the process one more time. Move the total station to a different location and repeat the process above. New resection followed by measure rounds. TIP

Within your second and third setups you can stakeout the original control marks to determine how close the control is.

Office Process

• Export as a CSV with coordinates

• Open in Excel and compare the differences between observations. If they are sutiable proceed however if not complete more observations in the field until a suitable result is found.

• Within Excel, Average the observations and copy into the Control Master File:

• Save As the latest version then output a new control master as a CSV into the Survey Setout Folder:
